Prevent the Winter Blues with Indoor Gardening: DIY Kokedamas
As the winter drags on and the days are still short, our mental well-being can suffer. Fortunately, through indoor gardening, we can boost our mood, bring some of the bright, vibrant green inside, and help put our minds back on track while also connecting with the natural world. In this hour long, virtual zoom seminar, participants will learn a little bit about houseplants & indoor gardening as we create moss ball planters (kokedamas)! This presentation is highly visual and includes dozens of my own photographs. This program is perfect for homeschool students, classroom presentations, or for adults who are interested in learning more about plants, their care, and role in our lives!
We shall go over:
- The Mental & Physical Benefits of Plants
- Japanese Moss Ball Design (Kokedama)
- Epiphytic Plants Ideal for Use in Kokedamas
The end of the presentation will go in depth, giving instructions and methods for creating your own Kokedama step-by-step. All registrants will receive a materials checklist so that if you’d like to build a kokedama, you can follow along as I demonstrate how to create a Kokedama Orchid.
Program will be recorded and sent out to all registrants, so sign up even if you can’t attend live! Admission is “Pay What You Can”, with a variety of budget-friendly options available (you MUST register even if you choose not to pay so that I know where to email the zoom link). A portion of the proceeds supports wildlife conservation efforts and ensures that I can continue creating educational content. Those who pay $15 or more will also get some of my illustrated weatherproof plant-themed stickers in the mail as a thank you!
If you do not see the zoom link & confirmation in your email inbox within 24hrs., please check your spam folder, then check that you spelled your email address correctly, then reach out to me at mjacobs@theartofecology.com (at least 20 minutes prior to the presentation start time!).
