Heart & Soul Project

This project aims at highlighting the intricate relationship that wildlife have with their habitats. Wildlife species need healthy ecosystems in order to thrive and in turn, their health impacts the health of the habitat that they live in. Without healthy populations of animals, plants are impacted and vise versa. To learn more about this project and it’s goals, click here!

As you look at these images, take special note of the animal that it portrays along with the overlaid landscape. How do these two images connect? How does the animal need the habitat to survive? What impact would it have on the animal AND habitat if that animal were removed from the picture? How is climate change, pollution, and human impact changing the landscape and how will those things impact the animals that call that area home?

Predatory canines ran in the woods in search of small mammals. To this day, wolves, coyotes, and foxes run wild and are important parts of the food chain as predators.

Bearded Dragons vary in color from tan, to light brown, to slightly reddish and are so colored to be able to blend in with their desert environments. This made the overlay process a little difficult as the lizard is designed to be indistinguishable from their surroundings!

American Toads rely, as amphibians, not just on their forest habitat to provide them shelter but on healthy and clean water sources to lay eggs in.
Black-capped Chickadees rely on their forest habitat as a source of food not just in the summer as they scrounge up insects, but in the winter as they forage for seeds!

Snails – Did you know that they participate in a VERY small portion of pollination?
Swallowtail Butterflies play an important role in pollination
