botanical illustration education for adults

Botanical Illustration Spring Series

Join Marissa Jacobs of The Art of Ecology for an intro to botanical & scientific illustration series focusing on spring wildflowers!

What to Expect:

During this Scientific Illustration for Naturalists course, bring out your inner artist and hone your creative skills as you learn the ins and outs of botanical and scientific illustration in order to create beautiful documentation of ecosystem observations. This class will get you observing and learning how to document the natural world through illustration and will focus on seasonal plants, animals, and fungi and how these members of the natural world interact with one another. No art or natural science experience necessary – we’ll go over basic illustration techniques, plant & animal ID methods, and follow a step-by-step, scientific illustration process during this course!

Each class will include a lecture portion, where we’ll discuss techniques, history, composition, and science, as well as several hands-on portions, such as weekly illustration warm-ups and activities, as well as drawing time to work on our own scientific illustration project (to be finished by the end of the course).
