Did you know that Emperor Penguins 💛 snuggles? They create large snuggle huddles to conserve energy and stay warm. The inside of the huddle gets pretty warm (for penguins at least!) while the outside edge getts hit by chilly winds. The penguins on the outside move in and the ones in the middle move out for some fresh air.
This past week was #InvasiveSpecies Awareness Week. Invasive species, like the Lesser Celandine (yellow in the background) outcompete native species (like the Spring Beauties in the foreground). The ephemeral native spring flowers that provide valuable resources for early pollinators get overwhelmed by the crazy, nodule root systems of those yellow cuties.
We've had our first "nice" day in a LONG while and it felt so good! The sun is shining again today and I am so ready for spring and gardening season!
Song sparrows can be found anywhere, yet their favorite habitats are open areas, such as spots along marshes, overgrown fields, backyards, and forest edges. They love crunching on yummy insects and therefore have to go where those insects are - those open spaces!
