Botanical Dye for Tshirts Workshop
Explore the many pigments and hues that locally foraged and gardened plants create and make your own beautiful t-shirt during this Botanical Dye workshop!
What to Expect during the Botanical Dye Workshop:
We will take a foraging walk around the property to identify local wild trees and plants whose constituents any phytochemicals can be used to create gorgeous dyes and pigments for textiles. Then, we will head back to the center to dye our shirts. Rubber bands and string will be provided to tie-dye shirts if desired! A majority of the program will take place outside. Pease dress according to the weather. In the case of inclement weather, we will be inside (except for the foraging walk).
During the program, we will define a fugitive vs. long-lasting dye, explore plants that can be gardened or foraged, the colors that are made from them, and how to mordant our shirts in order to create as long-lasting and high-quality colors as possible. We will focus on plants such as Crabapples, Black Walnuts, a variety of wildflowers, Alliums, wild berries, and more to create peach, brown, green, yellow, and reddish-purple hues.
Workshop Details:
Admission is $30 for adults (18 and older), $15 for kids (only open to ages 7+). During registration, please put shirt sizes (specify youth vs. adult sizes) in order notes on the checkout page. A portion of the proceeds is donated back to Bucks County Audubon Society.
