Festive Fun: A Sustainable Jewelry Workshop
Dazzle and start many eco-conversations this holiday season! Let’s combat single-use plastics with this seasonal Sustainable Jewelry workshop, where participants can help reduce the amount of waste entering our landfills this winter by creating unique, handcrafted earrings or pendants.
What To Expect:
Did you know that #6 (Polystyrene, often seen in takeout containers) is cheap and easy to make, yet very difficult to recycle? Less than 5% can be recovered. And, during the holiday season (between Thanksgiving and New Year), landfill waste increases by over 25%! Giving #6 plastic new life helps reduce waste. But what can we make with it? Beautiful, wearable art that stands out as conversation pieces and brings a bit of whimsy to everyday life. Each piece of art serves as a conversation starter about the importance of sustainability for us, ecosystems, and wildlife we live with.
Learn more about recycling, sustainability, who to contact in your township/municipality with questions, and the importance of reducing single-use plastics, all while designing, creating, and taking home your own piece of hand-crafted jewelry or keyring accessory. Each participant will have the opportunity to make 2 sets of earrings, pendants, or keychains and discover more about the process of giving new life to #6 plastics at home. Templates for holly boughs, poinsettias, snowflakes, winter birds, and more will be provided, however participants may create any designs they wish!
All materials are provided, so the only thing left to bring is your imagination!
